As a complete central heating novice, what is the quickest way to find out whether your pump needs renewing; hot water is not a problem, but central heating is not working am I right in suspecting pump has packed in?

I would greatly appreciate any reasonable solutions

Thanks in advance

Might sound daft but you can put the sharp end of a screwdriver against the body of the pump and the blunt end to your ear. You should get an indication if it is running or not.

Failing that, you can turn off the boiler by turning down the boiler thermostat and put the heating on, room thermostat up to max, and listen for the pump kicking in.

From what you describe i would say it's more likely the valve that diverts the hot water to the radiators has failed.

3 possibilities, pumps faulty, diverter valves faulty, or the thermisters gone.
