Painted Exterior Stone Wall
9 Answers
I have recently bought a small 1840s stone built cottage, someone in the past has decide to paint a section of the back wall (white). God knows why. Has anyone got any experience of removing paint from stone walls. Some will come off with a wire brush, but in patches it is like 'gloss' and a wire brush wont touch it. I would really prefer to get it off, but would covering it with a trelice (for example) be an option. Thanks for your answers.

Sandblasting is the best method but messy and expensive. You would be living with the dust for weeks. That little trial pack may be sufficient if it is only a small area. this are the main product tubs. The trial pack contains two products to try. Perhaps Builder will pick this up for you, he may not be working if the rain is anything like it is here.

Yes, I think Togo has the only effective way. Sandblasting.
You say it's a stone wall, Henry. I assume you mean that it is a stone face and not rendered.
You can hir a sandblaster from a tool hire shop. It's really just a super powerful pressure jet., but with sand in the water. It'll take the paint off ok, but you will have to re-point afterwards, as the jet will strip a lot of the mortar out.
