My current plug is broke ie a little hole in the rubber so won't hold water in sink.

I have bought two this week as they were faulty. I have to return it again as it too is faulty.

Is there an ordinary plug I could buy ie that would fit as I can't be bothered trying a third one - thanks

There must be a fault with the ones you have bought Jenny, these sink plugs are bigger than usual, I would try another but check the plug when buying.

Thanks TWR - both plugs got jammed and I had great difficulty in getting them out. You can't even get a grip of them and twice I have had to lug the water from the sink to a bucket.

Just think perhaps the batch hanging up in B&Q are all faulty.
Jenny, to assist the plug removal make sure where the plug sits in the sink that's it's clean, & just use a smear of either cooking oil or Vaseline.

ok - will try that
I have a silicon sink plug like this. I've had it for ages...it doesn't budge. Not "ordinary" I suppose...but it works.

You've put up a Link to a Strainer, but say you want a Plug, which is it?

If it's what I think it is - it doubles up as both. In the raised position, it lets water drain through; then when you push it down, it sits on the rubber seal, making it watertight and acts as a plug ..... I think :)

Well tried the cooking oil TWR - but still it jams very bad. When I try to pull on "the pull thingmajig" - the pull actually comes away completely.

This is the third time. Oh for old times when a stopper was a stopper.
Just buy a plug!
Jenny, check the "Out Rim of the Plug" does it show sign of rust? if so, use a Nail File, clean it off & try.x

thats all I want to do but what size
Question Author
TWR - they're brand new
Measure the hole!
I'm sure they are a standard size Jenny, there's a restriction in the base, although Stainless Steel there may be something there that's causing it to stick, has any blunt tool been used on the inside base where the Plug Goes?

Well got great service from B&Q (not) - guy told me this plug was suitable - got it home - NOT SUITABLE.

The Plughole was also from B&Q ?

I had to change both parts of mine when I couldn't find a suitable replacement strainer/plug. Very slight differences in size/shape between manufacturers causing problems.
