What's A Girl To Do

I am finally having a guy round to my house tomorrow to do all sorts of work to my house after the flood.

to bore you

rip up carpet and laminate back bedroom
rip up stair carpet
I will wash stairs etc
then landing, stairs and hall to be re-vamped etc to be painted from varnish to snow white paint. I hope

However I am still with the hole in kitchen ceiling - my neighbour (who has been brilliant to me over the years) has been promising to come over and fill the hole in and hasn't

This guy who is coming tomorrow can also plaster ie handyman - when neighbour heard he said "no way hosay - I will fix it" tomorrow - errrr - that was last week - he has told me he will fix it on Monday and I haven't heard anything tonight.

Gawd - what am i going to do - don't want to hurt him in a million ways - yet this guy can fix it.

What should I do - can't sleep over it - can't afford to lose my neighbour's friendship

He's not going to get all that work done in one day.

Oh no, the guy tomorrow I reckon will be here for a week.

And if I think he's good he could be here for two weeks as I want so much work done.

Ring the neighbour and say 'I've got the handyman in for a few jobs, I'll get him to do the ceiling to save you the trouble this time-but be on call should I need you again my hero.'

Well let him do the hole in the kitchen. I'm sure your neighbour won't mind.

Errrmmm - when I suggested to neighbour on Thursday - he went "insane" saying - Why are you getting these men when I can do it.

Gawd - I said to him "but you know he is going to take the pressure of you - he said - let me do it - I will do a better job".

Mamy - he is so much more than a neighbour - him and his wife have been fantastic friends

Arrange for them to have a duel - seems the best solution.

Good friends and neighbours are a boon I know.

But he hasn't done it!!

Last year when I had probs with my guttering I inadvertently let travellers do it and chimney pots etc etc etc and they charged me exorbitant rates. When neighbour heard I mean he went insane saying - do you know when you get them you are doing us workers out of a job - at the time I was very ill with the vertigo - between the travellers and him I was so upset but couldn't tell anybody what I was going through.

Ummmm - I am supposed to be a "mind-reader" in a lot of areas of my life

Nobody knows the answer to above but if neighbour doesn't weigh in within the week - I am going to let my handyman do the job and I will just have to risk the beautiful friendship. I need so much work done.

This^ is something i'd expect from a man and wife and you've already said he was married.

No offence but in my opinion there seems to be something strange here. Maybe the way he percieves your friendship?

As said, if he was such a good guy why does he keep stalling? A good friend makes time for friends.

just takes his time getting round to it

Ive a guy whose a promise fixer but in his own time = my 'frank spencer' son! I prefer to pay a pro who uses his own tools & completes the job.

tell your neighbor your man needs paid work as he has a family.

If your man is doing the painting, then you could tell neighbour that the hole has to be fixed by X so that the plaster has time to dry before man paints the roof on Y. So suggest to neighbour if he can't manage it by Z then man will fix it.
