When ordering curtains, is what's shown online the width of the window or each curtain? And do I double the measurement? I.e. If the window is 60 drop x 40 width would I buy curtains 80 width?
I've done this a hundred times but seriously have got brain freeze - I blame my head cold and headache!

Online the measurement is per curtain.
Do not quote me but from memory it's 1 1/2 the width.
Divide the width of window in half then you need that width plus half again for gather per curtain.
No, if the width is 40, buy 40, not 80. What is shown is usually the width of the window, not the curtain. Don't worry Smo, in the past I too have struggled with this !
And reading the other posts, I may be wrong again !!
Its normally twice the width of the window for net curtains. and one and a half times the width of the window for ordinary curtains.
I would order a minimum of x2 for the lounge, but would accept less for a bedroom, though not much less.

So it's not just me lol.
Nearest size to that which you state in my room is a 48"x 48" square window.

The curtains up which fit perfectly are 46"x 72" per curtain - they do sit in a pole outside the recess though so draw across easily.

You may want yours longer in drop, that's choice.
Do people still have net curtains?????
46" Width is the most common narrowest size for ready mades for a 40" width window you could manage with less if you had them made up.
I have voiles so I don't frighten the anglers.

Ok so probably 46 or 54 width, plus drop of choice. 90 would be to floor.
I always buy x2 width for curtains
Smow, it also depends on thee thickness of the fabric and how much light you want coming in when they're drawn.

If bulky a 54" width wouldn't draw back far and you'd have only a small amount coming in.
Throw those curtains wide...

Good point - I'll get double. They not for my house, but the house we're doing up to rent out so as long as they're clean and fresh....
I like a fullness in curtains if they are to be closed and not just draped over blinds to remain open
I like fullness too hence my recommendation - interested, so what size are you going for now considering this is a small window?
You can tell it's a long time since I bought curtains Smo ... !
