I have a fridge freezer in my integral garage and the fridge freezes food when the weather gets colder. Most fridge freezers apparently have this problem. Would a frost free freezer be better?
Many thanks for your advice.
do you want it as a fridge or a freezer? If you want a freezer then have a freezer but if you want a fridge then get a larder fridge with no freezer facility.
Most makes of modern fridges/freezers/fridgefreezers aren't suitable for use in garages. I have the opposite problem to you - my inherited "spare" fridge-freezer can't be used when it gets cold as the freezer defrosts because the single fridge thermostat says the fridge is cold enough!
The main problem is that if the outside temperature goes below a certain level, the fridge thermostat believes it is cold enough and can turn the compressor off, causing the freezer contents to start to thaw. The contents of your freezer may thaw out and then re-freeze when the outside temperature warms up without you even knowing.
For a garage or outbuilding location, you really need to think about getting a freezer that will work when the ambient temperature goes as low as -15C or 5F.
