Toxic Furniture Syndrome

Until this evening I had no idea there had been complaints about toxins in leather furniture.

A family member and her husband bought a leather suite from DFS about 4-5 months ago..since then they have both suffered from itchy skin..that's now developed into a nasty rash like burn in several places that touch the furniture when they sit on it.

Putting the query into Google, it comes up as many people have had a similar problem,

My question is, has anyone here heard of this or know anyone who have had the same problem.

I recall a report a long way back on BBC Watchdog on similar, but don't know anyone affected.

I would have thought after the huge payouts this would have gone away, unless this is a different issue.

I would have hoped so too Mamyalynne. One report I read was written in Feb 2017 tho so seems it hasn't completely been resolved.

Thank you for your reply.
I have heard of it, but wouldn't have recall but for your reminder.
I had the same issue a few years ago with a leather couch. Whatever they treat it with to prevent mould etc is what causes the issue. The original company went bust with all the claims so I thought that was the end of it - get your claim in early. Some cheap non genuine Crocs have the same treatment.

Thanks for replying.

Its interesting to find someone who has had the same problem. This suite was £3,500. They thought it would last them the rest of their days...being late 70's and mid 80's.. If there is an outcome from this I will update again thank you.

Hi, I've been locked out of the site for several months but found the key to the door now..haha.

I also found some old posts of mine and this one in particular where I'd said I'd update it any further outcome.

Sadly there is but it wasn't the fault of the furniture after all. My BIL had the rash that there didn't seem an answer to, until he had bloods done...short story, the rash was an early sign of Liver damage...combined with a very rare blood cancer. He sadly passed away nearly 3 months ago. His wife also had a rash that turns out to be Psoriasis. Not the leather furniture at all.
