Does anyone now how to get my secuity light to work on a sensor - at the moment its on all the time! Im going through loads of light bulbs!!

You can get the light to operate through a Passive Infra Red Sensor available from electrical shops.

If its one with built in sensor (usually looks like a plastic hemisphere about 1" diameter), try switching it on and off 3 times (finally leaving it on). It may either stay on for a bit, then flash a couple of times and go off, or flash straight away. If so, it is then set and will come on for a minute (or whatever) each time it is triggered.

I've just re read the question, so sounds like you know you haven't got a sensor. Easiest way to save wiring is buy a new light with a built in sensor.

Hi sarah, yes to the above but also buy and fit a low energy long life lamp, these cost more but the lifetime is about 10x a normal lamp. The only thing is not to fit them in fully enclosed light fittings as they can get too hot and have shorter lifetime.

If I read your question correctly; you have fitted a security light which is now permanently 'On'.

Try switching the power off for two or more seconds, it should then activate properly when power is restored. The lamp will light when the power is restored but should go off, if you have it on the right setting.

Hi sarah,are you sure there isn't a small screw which you can turn to adjust so that the light comes on when it is dusk,and goes off in the morning at a similar light density.We have just had a similar problem but after much 'tweeking' of the adjuster,it now works. Our instructions were not very clear so it took longer than usual to get it right.Long life bulbs are also a good idea.
