Changing Energy Supplier

I have a smart meter from SSE and wanted to know if I can change supplier and keep the meter. I seem to remember the installer saying that if I moved home the new owner could not use the meter and wondered if this also applied if I changed my supplier.

You may have to get your new suppliers to fit new smart meters, I changed from British Gas to another supplier and the meters were not interchangeable. The energy suppliers are supposed to be working together to make all the smart meters interchangeable.

There are several different makes and types of smart meter.You will probably have to get a new meter if you change energy supplier.
