Yes and yes is the answer .....But, you have to keep them well watered and feed weekly. As the plants are being grown in an almost artificial environment (in a tub, not the ground), you will have to do all the work for them ie provide nutrients and water.
Then, i would say every 4-5 years, the plant needs taking out of the tub, the root ball broken up and replanted back in the tub with fresh compost.
Hope this helps a bit

Hi there BB
You won't need a trellis for a Pyracantha as they will support themselves against a wall or fence.Unless you really love them I would advise against this plant. They grow like mad and they have really evil thorns. Before you know it they have taken over half your patio.I have just got rid of 2 of these plants.Pruning is a dangerous job believe me!
another option is to chip through the concrete layer wher you want a plant, enrich the soil and then pave around the tiny bed
Yes i have to agree with Valsuey, Pyracanth is a wicked shrub, i have 1 in my garden and we hate to prune it as the thorns are evil, if you should get 1 prune the stems you do not want as they come out, they are soft at first then they harden up. try getting a shrub that has no thorns on it. besy of luck.
They both should do well in pots for a good few years if you follow the advice above and even be less robust with their roots restricted. You have a good choice of red, orange or yellow berries on the pyracantha which the birds will love too. thorns may be a problem if you have wee kids running around the yard but otherwise enjoy !
