Should I Compensate Neighbors?
31 Answers
I had my front garden turned into a block paved drive. The person did it while i was away on holiday. My neighbors came and told me off when i got home that when he cut the tiles he didn't dampen down and their cars and house Windows were covered in brick dust. Should i offer to get their cars and Windows cleaned?

I would say Thank you, but no thank you. Then, I would hope that the the 'guilty' neighbour would have a word with the workman and maybe offer me a bottle of wine as a 'Thank you for being understanding' gesture.
No. On my walk into town, I pass some major building renovations and building works....all the cars parked along the road are in a disgusting state. I don't expect any of the owners are expecting the contractors or property owners to pay for their car valeting. It's what happens when work is being done.

several of us have had home stuff done here that is dusty or messy...I don't remember any of the workmen damping down or anybody being particularly bothered.....If the work was done during the recent dry spell, IMO it would have been very wasteful of water to do so. having said that though, a couple of my neighbours can be prickly and I think it makes good practical sense to maintain the moral high ground in my dealings with them. In this case I would probably proffer an apology and a dcecent bottle of wine.
