Just bought a new tumble dryer but it makes the clothes smell. I can only describe it as a burnt biscuit smell which isn't very pleasant. I've tried using it at a lower heat setting but to no avail. What's causing this and how can I get rid of it?

when i first got mine all my clothes had a plasticy smell, most annoying, so i used tumble dryer sheets and once the tumble dryer was used for a few weeks the smell went, i dont have to use the sheets now (i carried on til i used a whole pack) and my clothes just smell of fabric conditioner.

Pam, are you sure your washing machine conditioner dispenser is working properly & softening the clothes? I ask this because I noticed our towels & clothes weren't as soft & as nice smelling as usual. I started using Comfort Softener Pearls (after someone recommended them on AB) & it's now fine.

You pop one 'pearl' in with your clothes & it dissolves as it's washing - alongside your powder. Everything smells nice & fresh when taking them out of the washing machine & into the tumble dryer.

i always think it smells like the elastic in the clothes is getting heated - check the thermostat is working
I agree with joko based on quite a few of my "tumble dryerable" items, including my sofas covers! with plastic zips, have gone weird and broken far quicker than they should have. I don't think manufacturers are always considering zips etc just the material when they say it's tumble dryer proof.
