My Boiler Keep Coming On Even When It Is Switched Off, Can You Help Please

Hello, I have a Baxi Precision+ boiler and have just had a smart meter fitted (not so smart) since then even though my heating and hot water is switched OFF the boiler comes on by itself. I have checked (well hubby has) the frost stat and set it to 5 degrees but this has made no difference it is still coming on by itself, please can you help this is costing me a fortune

You need to get a plumber in - clearly something electronic is 'talking' to your boiler, they'll find out what it is, and sort it for you.

seems to coincidental that it is associated with the installation of smart meter. Try disconnecting the smart meter if you can, if not, contact whoever installed the smart meter. May be a faff for a while, but to save money turn boiler of when you don,t need it.

Does it come on when you turn on a hot tap?

My thinking is it might be one of those boilers that heats water instantly, rather than heating a tank of water.

Hopkirk ~ I tend to agree but why is boiler running if there is apparently no demand i.e. heating and hot water turned off.
I still believe its something to do with smart meter installation.
To OP Lynn I meant to isolate boiler from mains for the time being when you don,t want it running until problem is sorted

Thank you all for you very good replies, I have contacted the smart meter installers and they say to get a gas safe engineer in and I said I think that they should come back and sort it out but they wont. I am going to get on organised tomorrow and I have turn off the boiler as one of you suggested at the 'big main' as I call it, it may be a gas boiler but it is the electricity signal that is kicking in somewhere all by itself. We have a comfort setting on our boiler which means that it switches on and off all the time so that we do not have to wait so long for warm water to come through. It has a small water tank inside that keeps a small amount of water warm all the time. Different make to yours but I would check the settings to so if you have one of these first. My mother recently had a smart meter fitted and while it didn't mess with her boiler it did keep tripping her electric supply as they fitted it in the wrong place, to close to her other meter. So it had to be moved to diffent place.

All the meter does is measure the amount of electricity you use it has no control functions at all and can't randomly switch anything. There is a fault in the electronics of the boiler, get a heating engineer in and keep the boiler switched off at the mains when not in use til it's repaired. These intermitent faults are difficult to find as it has to happen as you examine the appliance but an engineer familiar with your boiler will probably have a good idea what'happening.

Thank you all again and in reply to Hopkirk no it does not heat the hot water instantly it has to be told to do it but good thinking. I will do as you say JohnK you are right its time I stopped trying to reset things and get an engineer in, it is sooooooo annoying though, everything was great until they fitted the meters, even the solar panel iboost when haywire I think it is all todo with the electricity being cut off and the gas supply too, such a sod though really annoyed. Thanks again all of you for your help, if anyone still has the answer has they may have experienced the same I would be grateful of any advice. x

It might just be a faulty thermostat.
