We are moving house soon and I would like to minimise the stress for our two cats. One suggestion is to confine them to one room while we pack up then drive them to the new house and settle them in a quiet room there, although I doubt there can really be such a thing as a quiet room anywhere when moving house. Alternatively, we can put them in a cattery for a night or two. They’ve never been in a cattery but it seems it might be the lesser of two evils. Have you ever moved house with cats and how did they cope? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Having done it a few times the last time I used a cattery. I would thoroughly recommend this. No stress for the cat and one less thing for me to worry about.
Last move was with three cats. A kind neighbour kept them in his outhouse for a couple of days before the move, and they stayed in my brother's garage for a night before being brought to the new property.
They were a little confused rather than stressed.
Without those facilities, we would have used a cattery rather than losing one or more.
We have moved house with cats. They went into an excellent cattery for a week, in a shared pen, and then came out to new surroundings. We kept them inside at the new house for a week and there were absolutely no problems.
My in-laws have just moved back to Ireland with their two cats. The bought cat leads and brought them out everyday so they could get used to their surroundings. It's worked a treat. They are quite rural though.
