New bell, posh one (Honeywell), wireless, all very good.

Except the bellpush has to pressed firmly in the centre, otherwise no signal.

Tried dismantling the push (to bend the spring or something) but it doesn’t come to bits (the battery being round the back).

So, any tricks for making the push more sensitive, or for getting inside it?

We've had it for 3 months, and it cured the night-time 'ghost' rings that we were getting on the cheapo bells.

But over that period we have noticed some people using the knocker, and finally we asked a neighbour why she knocked, and she explained the problems with the bell-push. We tried, and it is fine in the centre, but if you press the periphery it doesn't make contact (as Gingebee said above).

So no, we can't return it so late, and no, it's not just an ornament. If you push the centre of the bell-push, it works perfectly.

Hence the original question about repairing the BELL-PUSH!!

Gord.

If its only 3 months old you can return for a replacement or refund if you still have proof of purchase or bank / credit card statement

Get him to help you then. You are making a mountain out of a molehill.
As stated if only 3 months old you can change it or ask a refund. If it ain't fit for purpose you have statutory rights
I assume you have a receipt?

I have battery doorbell similar to this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Wireless-Door-Bell-Kit-Battery-operated-24-Chimes-Range-50m-Ref-ES229/11012065744?iid=273102589302

works fine and a lot cheaper.

P.S. Don't understand why you started it apart?

Dear oh dear, the tempers, the aggression - why? It’s only a bleedin’ bell-push!

I am old. When things go wrong, old gits like me attempt to repair them, not ditch them... A simple bending of the spring would cure the problem; why complicate things?

meant "take it apart"
I am old. When things go wrong, old gits like me attempt to repair them, not ditch them..

So am I old but not too old to know that most modern things are not "user friendly" which means us old gits shouldn't attempt to dismantle and repair them. Unfortunately it is a throw away society and you only end up with your warranty null and void for tampering with the item. Safer,as advised,to get a refund or exchange then you won't be out of pocket.

I too am an old git and repair things which go wrong but, if I buy someting which doesn't work properly, I go back and complain.

No temper or aggression from me was intended if you felt it was.
I like taking stuff apart and repairing, but would not if its still under warranty & I wouldn't be throwing £48 down the pan .

I’m putting a big sign on my door saying “PLEASE KNOCK”.

I've given in, and contacted Honeywell. I bought it in July, so might be lucky (Amazon only give you a month, but Honeywell might be more helpful).

You can buy a new push, but it's another sixteen quid, and even I'm too mean to go down that road without trying the complaining route instead!

How's that all working out for you? :-)
bainbrig.....I think that you misunderstand the Amazon "30- day refund window"....you get 30 days to return if you don't like/ no longer want or need an item. If an item is faulty, your consumer rights are the same as they are anywhere else....ie a refund or replacement.
....even several months later.
gingejbee Yes you are absolutely correct in your last 2 posts. Only problem is if supplier can establish to there satisfaction that BB has dismantled bell push and therefore voided any warranty. But hopefully Honeywell will look sympathetically on BB's claim and replace unit.
Question Author
tony: quite right, but I couldn't dismantle the bell push! It's all one lump, hence the original question...

OK BB some misunderstandings all round. Hope you manage to get a refund through Amazon Or Honeywell
