Hi there! Please help my poor brain out...

If you are on a standard tariff with British Gas, which is cheaper to use [for heating]?

Would it be cheaper to use a small fan heater for an hour than put the heating on the for the whole house? Yes it is that time of year again lol I know this would also be affected by the type of heater [wattage? So clueless abut these things].

i recently got a new gass / electric

I was told if i use a electric heater in the night or day my average cost per month would be higher than if i used gass central heating.

(Doesn't answer your question but that's what British gass man told me)

On similar topics.. my friends parents got rid of their electric kettle and swapped it for a gass one as their electric bill was huge in the hope it'd drop.. It did but their gass bill rose.

Cheers ZM, super speedy reply... so my son will just have to put up with the noise the boiler makes when it kicks in in the morning lol x

Well it sort of does Spath so thanks to you too.

It's only really an issue as the noise annoys my son in the mornings [I do get up rather early]. So it's tyhat or he pays more housekeeping and buys me a heater ;) x
If you have gas power central heating you should NOT be on the standard tariff. As the Gas Help line about the cheapest tariff. It is free to switch and usually be done instantly by the Gas Company. Phone them and ask.
Being simplistic and ignoring the different way devices work and their relative efficiencies, A Kwh of electricity costs the consumer around five times as much as a Kwh of gas.
