Does anyone know what smokeless fuel is and where I can get it?

smokeless fuel is coal which has been treated so as not to belch clouds of black tarry smoke when used (google on "Clean air act" for more info. look inyour yellow pages for a coal and coke merchant or sometimes it is sold in small expensive bags on garage forecourts

....and it's usually the lower grade, bituminous and sub-bituminous coals that cause the problems.

Best quality Welsh anthracite is a smokeless fuel in its own right - the natural form requiring no processing to be classed as such. (Anthracite is the highest grade of coal - ie. it has undergone the greatest degree of coalification.)
