I've had a big clothes shop today......you know when you go to look for a black tee shirt and come home with everything but....

Two of the unlined floaty jackets I bought are full of static......and I want them to float....not cling to the bits I'm covering up so has anyone tried any of the anti static sprays that are available and can recommend one please?

Thanks, Gx

Are they Polyester?
It's horrible when that happens. It really spoils the enjoyment of having new clothes.

Here are a few tips from Wikihow.

I hope this helps, Gness.

Alternatively, never buy anything that is not made from natural fibres and take back the clingy things.

Label says silk with elastane, LB so maybe it was the elastane or, looking at Tilly's post, I may have somehow discharged the static. I've just tried them on and given them a good shake and they're flowing as I wished.
Perhaps there was a build up of electricity in the shop....we have heard she has a new man in her life..... :-)

Thanks, Tilly..x
Stick 'em on the line!
Don't tumble dry them, whatever you do.
Question Author
These I won't tumble dry, Tilly......strict instructions on the label about how to care for them.....including do not machine was even on delicate.....wish I'd just found the tee shirt...but they are lovely jackets.....hide a multitude of choc sins too.... :-)
Do you mean spare tyres or stains?
Question Author
Spare tyres, Tilly.....albeit bicycle tyres so far anyway......the way they drape if I dribble chocolate they won't hide that.... :-(
Are you still using your bike, Gness?
Question Author
Oh yes.....unless it's very cold and icy....love my bike and if...if we get to Ireland it'll get even more use....x
Too late now but in the future just stick to natural fibres i.e. cotton, linen, wool. No static from those.
Question Author
Thanks, Diddly but no thank you......cotton is fine for the gym or birding......pure wool can be beautifully fine but not for a floaty evening in The Algarve....silk is much better and as for linen....never.....linen is a bit Emperor's new clothes for me......everyone ends up like a crumpled up granny.....x
Question Author
And as said......I've discharged the static and floating very nicely.... :-)
Sorry gness - should have added silk to my list of natural non-static-inducing fibres.
How did you manage to discharge it ?
Question Author
Well from Tilly's post, Tony......my bike was in the hall so I rolled the jacket over the handlebars....put it on and gave it a good shake......it then hung in lovely folds with no static...so....
Maybe I discharged the static or maybe it was taking it away from the shop.....Dave got a couple of little shocks as he was leaning on rails patiently waiting for me to choose..... nylon carpets perhaps?
Anyway....both are draping perfectly now....just as I want but I'll still take on board previous suggestions and perhaps find a spray to have to hand....x
The floor for a guess. There is a section of flooring in my local Tesco that gives me a static shock if I touch any of the metal on the trolley.
What are 'anti statics' pray?
Question Author
Could be, Tony...when I lived in Calgary the air was so very dry that we were forever getting little shocks...learned to flick a finger nail onto things before we touched them......that surprised a few chaps... ;-)
Question Author
Wives of Uncle Statics, Shoota.... ;-)
There's nowt wrong, from my pro-static viewpoint, in clingy clobber.
