when's the best time to plant carnations???

Carnations (Dianthus), if planted from seed should be done early spring. However, if you take cuttings from existing year old plants then that should be done in October. If you've had mild weather and the plants are still vigorous, you can take cuttings now for propagation and planting in the spring.
