Hi All. We’ve just bought a house with a beautiful orangery and bifold doors. It’s lovely having them open looking into the garden. However I know that flies are going to be a problem. Any ideas on how to keep them out? I’ve read about putting lavender and peppermint plants next to the doors but does anyone do anything that actually works. Thank you.
I have got these.....its not as nice as having a clear view out the door but you can see through them and they do keep most of the flies and other flying beasties out.....seems to have no effect on mozzies though. Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation
We have a metal framed door, which opens as a normal door and is fitted on the outside of the back door. The fine mesh on it means that flies never come in, except when the little b***ars wait for you to walk through. Bought it from Lidl about 7 years ago for about £20. Brilliant.
We have this problem - particularly with the french doors from the kitchen. We keep the curtains closed, but that isnt feasible when you are in and out with food (we tend to eat on the patio throughout the summer). Flies and wasps are a persistent problem.
So I bought a ultra violet zapper. It's mains powered and we have it on pretty much all day (although switch off when we are not here or in bed). It is a cracking bit of kit and really does zap them. I think it only cost around £40 from Amazon.
It seems to attract them Woofgang. If I keep the door from the kitchen to the rest of the house closed, it is pretty effective. I cant risk the little blighters escaping into the house because I cant use fly spray due to Mr BM's marine fish which are v sensitive to air born poison. (I used spray once and coincidentally his prized fish died about 3 days later)! Oops.
