Oil fired into water-filled radiators.

Just testing - upstairs radiators working well, downstairs cold - all radiators bled.

the pipes in the boilerhouse are hot - what could be causing the hot water to block - an air bubble? How best to tackle it?

Thanks in advance

This guy had a similar problem to yours (and shows you how he fixed it):

It may be a zone valve problem..however a quick test..shut off all valves upstairs and run the system...if the problem persists it will be a zone valve problem.
Do the upstairs rads get hot quickly or gradually...is the pump running ok...when was it last flushed and what colour is the water in the rads?

I ran the system hard earlier this evening and they heated up fairly quickly...the water not too bad, a little bit of dirt there. My fear is that it is the pump....

Thanks all.....
The pump is easy to change yourself. There is usually a stop-valve at each side of the pump in the mounting to isolate it, so no plumbing skills required. The electrics connect exactly as the one being replaced, so no problem there. I suspect the cost of a pump is similar to that of the call-out fee for a plumber.

the pump trick worked - many thanks for this! So simple, as it says.
