Fat balls hung from a branch or nail will keep most birds amused. You can get holders for them too. Half a coconut filled with fat/seed hung up.
Sultanas or other soft fruit will also be appreciated. (soak before putting out). Also an apple,
A general wild bird mix (try to get one with aniseed) will have something to attract many.
If you have squirrels use metal feeders or you will always be replacing them.
Don't forget the water.
Can't add much more than the other two answers, but the RSPB do a high-energy seed mix which is good for winter. You can buy online at their website or in pet shops.
I put out nyjer seed and had goldfinches within a few days - they are beautiful! That was in spring, but they're still around, so you may well be able to attract them now. The seed is prone to sprouting, so better not to hang over grass. Even a seed catcher doesn't stop the problem completely.
