How do you stop a leaking bath tap?

I am not a plumming expert but I think you have to probably change the washer. In the short term I would put a sponge under the tap so it doesn't make a noise.

Not a plumber either, but yes its sounds like a washer change, apparently very easy and very cheap to do.
