C/h Or Gas Fire

When you sit in one room most of the day is it cheaper to use the gas fire or the C/H which heats the whole house ? I think the gas fire but a friend thinks the opposite.

You don't need to heat the whole house with central heating if you turn the valves of on the radiators in the rooms your not using.

I would advise to keep the central heating on a low heat and use the gas heater in the room you sit in which because the room will be warmed a little from the central heating and you wont have to have the gas heater on a high heat. It's not good idea to let the rest of the house get cold.

It also depends on whether you keep doors shut or not. heat from a fire will wander around the house so to am extent you will be heating the house from the fire.
