Saffron???

So.......the spice shelf has my attention. Remember Michael McIntyre's brilliant sketch about the spice rack? I have a bag if what looks like saffron....but theres 100gms of it so I'm thinking it would be worth a fortune if really saffron. It was bought in Thailand...in 2015!... from TescoLotus. It's labelled DOK-KUM-FOUY. What is it? How should I use it?

Whatever it turns out to be, it will be past it's best now. Dried herbs are only good for about 3 years and spices 2.

My brother brought me some Saffron back from Goa a few years back. When I asked him how much he wanted for it, he said it was a present. Must have been fake 'cos he's tighter than a duck's whatsit :-))

Def not turmeric...its like little grass flowers with their tiny outside leaves. I've infused some...not yeilding much colour & only slight anise taste. The name has stumped Google too so at least that's not a Thai warning.

My guess is that it would be some kind of dried fruit/flower tea/infusion.

I love how some are shouting "throw it out! throw it out!!"...it may be old but it's not poison.
I had a clean out a few months ago, and really wish I'd kept a few things. They may have been past their prime, but still usable.

Now I'm wondering about a sealed pack of salami I found in the back of the fridge. It's taunting me...

Lol I'm with you pasta. Your salami was aged before it was sold so if it's still sealed carry on. Thnx Geezer but didnt look similar to any. Think my erb is too bright for fennel. It has offered up a brighter colour with soaking so I threw that into my chicken rice soup....can't remember the last time I bothered to boil up a carcass.....and it has a lovely golden tinge....sorted.
