Just taken up some decking and want to put grass seeds down but first need to put some topsoil down to level the area.
So it measures 11 1/2 feet x 12 1/2 feet and we want the topsoil to be 2 inches deep.
So how much topsoil do we need?
You cannot buy topsoil is square yards. It is sold in a cubic measure (usually cubic yards).
So, in feet, 11.5 x 12.5 = 143.75, divided by six (the fraction of a foot of the required depth) = 23.95 cu. feet. Divide by 27 (the number of cu. feet in a cu. yard) =0.88 cu. yards. One cubic yard should do the job.
Lot depends on "how " the people who supply the topsoil trade. You need 41,400 cubic inches. This is 3.030 Cubic Yards. This is 2.31 Cubic Metres. A cubic Metre is 1000 Litres if that is how your supplier calculates it.... so in litres..... 2,310 litres
