A Mattress That Rolls Up!

I have just seen an advert for a mattress that arrives in a box, rolled up! I never imagined such a thing. I'm a pocket sprung sort of chap (Vispring, thank you for asking) and cannot believe such a mattress is comfortable. I'm flabbergasted.
How long have these mattresses been on the market? Have you got one?

Yes - but it's just an overlay on an existing mattress. I certainly would not recommend it to go as a replacement for an existing pocket sprung one. It is fairly thin and although it is comfortable, I don't think that it is as good as the advert says.

This was advertised as a mattress for a proper bed. It had a woman's name

I've seen mattress toppers, RocW, and think they would only be good for a mattress in good condition but is too firm for your preference.

Emma? It’s a full mattress that arrives in a vacuum bag in a box, once unwrapped it’s fills out to a full mattress.

Normal mattress ...it's vacuum packed

We got one for our spare bed.
I thought Mrs JtH had accidently bought a topper until we took scissors to the vacuum-sealed package at which point it hissed into a full-depth king-size mattress (metal pocket-sprung, too).
It has been declared exceedingly comfortable by all who have slept on it.

That's the one. No way is it a normal mattress - my mattresses cannot be rolled up, bent or folded.

jackthehat, it was the Emma I saw advertised. I've looked online and they are foam mattresses, no springs

yes I bought the ikea version some 5 years ago and it wasn't a new concept then. Its very comfortable and much easier to get from the delivery point to the bed than the traditional delivery type so long as you wait until its in the same room as the bed base and actually ON the bed base before you open it. Oh and the compression doesn't reduce the weight!

My son bought one of these mattresses for his new bed. It arrived in what looked like a very small box for a mattress. Once unpacked and put on the bed it gradually sorted itself out. Can't remember how long it took. It was expensive but is the most comfortable mattress.

My friend bought one for her mother who is overweight and it did not work out as it was not comfortable and did not support the mum's weight.
She had a hell of a job getting back into it's original packaging as that was the only way they would accept it back.

The emma mattress you saw advertised has those new fangled memory-foam 'springs', however, there obviously are mattresses on the market with traditional metal springs which can be delivered rolled-up, too.

woofgang - I am sooo glad I waited until we had humped it upstairs before I decided to open it and not taken the scissors to the package in the hall which is what I usually do. :o)

I have one, they are memory foam mattresses, they have no springs but 'grow' to the normal size and are very comfortable.

We bought one of these (not an Emma) that arrived in a box and we were given the date of delivery so early on that date Mr BD took the old mattress to the tip while I waited infor the delivery. It arrived on time and Mr BD and grandson carried it upstairs to grandson's bedroom. When we got it out of the box there was note with it saying once you have put it on the bed you have to leave it for 72 hours to expand and settle properly before use. Ooops. Grandson had three nights on the settee. Having said all that it was three years ago and he is still delighted with it and it is very comfortable
