Land Registry

In 1933 my grandparents started buying the house that I now live in.
One solicitor stated that it was not illegal to have not the property registered.
I have seen that you can register voluntary.
When did modern registry come about?
We pay a yearly ground rent - so surely it should be registered

1990 registration first became compulsory. You can register it voluntarily but when the house is sold it will have to be registered.

You can register it yourself, it will save all sorts of hassles in the future.
