Dishwasher Installation Info

Hi, Does anyone know the correct level that the waste-pipe from my dishwasher (Hoover Crystaljet) should be set at on its way to the drains - does it matter? The waste outlet is right at the bottom of the dishwasher - should i maintain this level out to the drains? or should it run up then down etc...

The connection to the drain can be made at any location as far as heighth is concerned except if you are tapping into an existing drain under the sink then the dishwasher drain has to tap in above the goose neck to assure no sewer gasses back up. Additionally, if you tap into the under sink drain, there should be a special section of drain pipe you would install just at the junction. It has a slanted shield on the inside to keep the pressurized dishwasher drain water from splashing back up into the sink. Please understand, that's describing an installation here in the U.S. It may be different in the U.K.

Hi. The usual arrangement for dishwasher outlets relies on the flexible pipe going uphill for a bit since if you keep it level, it simply drains out all the time. (my experience of trying to use one placed on top af a worktop and draining straight into the sink!!!) You can use Clanad's suggestion if you have the branch pipe built in under your sink or, alternatively, you should put the pipe into a standpipe approx 2' 6" high with a u-trap at the bottom where it joins the sink outlet run (or just goes into a drain at ground level) If you need to buy this pipework, go to Wilkinsons if possible as they are less than half the price of anywhere else (for the same brand of product!!)
