Just Want Power Point ?

I just went to turn the kettle on and there was no power in that one socket. The one next to it worked okay. Any idea what could be causing this and what I should do?

Is the dead one a single or half of a double? Maybe there are more than 2 outlets on the same socket; if so the outlet will have its own fuse. Is the socket switched? Was it the kettle you tried in the working socket or a different appliance? If it was the kettle, have you re-tried it in the original socket? (The plug might have not been in the dead socket properly).

Yes, it must be the socket. Just buy a new one and change it yourself ie, no need for an electrician as it's classed as a job you're allowed to do yourself.
It's best to buy the same make of socket, if you can. All sockets work the same but the different manufacturers put the connections in different places which can make it awkward to connect if the wires are short.

I have an identical issue with an extension lead. Opened it up once, to see that it was impossible since flipping great chunks of brass connected the two lots of connections together. What is at one had to be at the other. Gave up investigating further, just screwed it back up again. So I just accept that reality as we see simply it can't be real, and I just use the working half.
