Our vacuum cleaner has died so I need a new one. The question is...... which one????? I would like a powerful corded (plug in at mains)bag less one. Something that is not heavy up & down the stairs. I'd like it not to have too many filters that need cleaning either. Not asking for a lot am I? Can anyone recommend something? or even warn me what NOT to buy. TIA Jackie x

Miele Blizzard CX1, pricey though.
Dyson do a range, we've got 2

Thanks for quick replies, I don't want an expensive one. Have heard of Miele - a bit much for me. Dyson are being considered. What model are yours TonyV? Why do you have 2? Thanks again
I have a Miele cat and dog (corded cylinder). It's amazingly powerful, nearly takes the carpet up but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone because it weighs a ton to move around, especially up the stairs.
Be warned that you might be wasting your time if you're seeking a new vacuum cleaner that's got a motor that's as powerful as your old one had:

An indication of your budget might help though. Some Shark or Dyson models cost over three hundred quid, whereas I'm currently looking at buying one of these, which has remarkably good reviews for a budget model:

Bagless aren't as nice as they sound. They need to be emptied, and that means dust going everywhere. Their filters need to be cleaned; dust going everywhere.
Jack they are dc24's it's just that one lives upstairs. Only have 2 because I bought my partner one when we were not living together.
Atheist it's no problem emptying the cylinders in the bin and filters dry when washed within 24 hours
Looks like a good buy Chris

Thanks again Abers. Buenchico, the most I would spend is around £200, but a good cheaper one, with the sales at the moment, would be good too. Prudie, yours sounded ideal until I read the 'heavy' part. Ours is a powerful one which they don't do anymore because of the 'noise' level. Athiest, I've had a cleaner with a bag so 'been there done that' The Vax that has died is bagless & we emptied it straight into the outside bin & cleaned filter at the same time. TonyV, I see why you have 2 now x
We have a Shark corded. The motor and cylinder come off for doing the stairs so you only take the bit you need and leave the wheels and handle downstairs so only half the weight.
Why would anyone wish to have a vacuum cleaner that is not cordless these days.
Use less power, no need to change the cord from room to room, and drag it behind you.
Sucks perfectly.
I suggest you reconsider a re-chargeable sucking machine.
i have a dyson, would never go back to a corded machine
1ozzy, we have a Dyson cordess as well as the Shark and the Dyson is nowhere near as good.
Well Shedman, what model Dyson and what model Shark?
After all it's no use comparing apples to oranges as they are two different fruits.
I have a G tech. It's brilliant! Light, I can pick it up on one finger, easy to empty, is cordless, but has to be plugged in after use to recharge. I have a smaller, hand held one as well, ideal for doing furniture and curtains etc. I wouldn't be without it, or swap it for anything!
i threw my G Tech machine out it was useless
It must have been a faulty one emmie. I've had mine for many years and it's never given a moments trouble.
no it wasn't, i had a g tech carpet cleaner before that and both machines used to deposit more dust on the carpet than they sucked up, i got rid of both and bought a dyson
1ozzy, we have a shark lift away and dyson animal both about 2 years old. I know some people prefer cordless but we prefer the corded type. They are more powerful, don't go flat halfway through doing a room and don't have to be stood against something to stop them falling as most including the dyson we have will not stand up on their own. That is just our opinion and the person that started this thread did ask for a corded one.
