I have plain white walls, always matt, never silk, I hate even the slight shineyness. And vinyl matt is also wipeable.
I add colour with other things..curtains, pictures, cushions, etc.
It’s all about personal choice though.
I find that coloured walls often are a better backdrop for pictures, furniture and other decorative items. Colour lifts my spirits and makes me feel good.
I wish I could paint my lounge, but that's impossible without help...too much heavy furniture. Kitchen is next on my list.
i employed a good set of decorators to do my flat, over time they did the dining, sitting room, the council actually did a nice job of redecorating my kitchen, when we had bathroom and , kitchen major contract refurbs.
Our house was all magnolia when we moved in, I personally really like that light creamy effect. We have gradually repainted in all rooms with things like - antique lace, country cream, vanilla mist, Cornish kaolin - all much more modern ..... and all look like magnolia :-)
Our house is probably what would be described as Scandi...white walls, pale carpets, pale grey sofas, pale wood, but lots of colour on the walls with original paintings, embroideries, framed family things, and interesting ‘ornaments and artifacts’ which have come down through the family.
I absolutely hate and couldn’t live with patterns, deep colours, clutter.
