When I compose a new email and type the first letter of the recipient's name, every other email address that I have ever sent to or received that begins with that letter pops up. Even spam that I have received. Does anyone know how to remove obsolete from autofill? There used to be a fix for Windows 8 which worked - I think it worked by adding those addresses to my contacts and then deleting from there but I can't do it in Windows 10

Thanks but they are not in my contacts.
Window 10 isn't providing the autofill function itself. If you're using a dedicated mail app, such as Windows 10 Mail, Thunderbird or Outlook, it will be that app that's doing it. If you're using a web browser (such as Edge or Chrome) to access you mail, it's likely that it's your browser that's storing the unnecessary data (although it could also be coming from your email provider's server).

So which provider do you use for your email (Gmail, GMX, or whoever) and, importantly, which app or web browser are you using?
Most email providers let you edit your contacts lists as they appear. I just arrow down and delete from the list.

Thanks for the replies. It's the Windows 10 mail app and I have my two email addresses there (yahoo and bt)
Windows 10 Mail is very basic. It works OK but it offers very little flexibility about exactly how it works. That means that there's no easy way to block obsolete autofills.

That doesn't mean that it can't actually be done but it's definitely a pain in the posterior to achieve it!

See the reply from JWN_WA here if you really want to try it. (You can ignore step 4 because you haven't got an Outlook.com email address):
