Caravans And Caravan Hols
49 Answers
There was a chap being interviewed on GMB this morning who hates caravans and says they're an eyesore and get in his way when driving his £70k Jag! He came across as quite arrogant and snobby.
I've stayed in a couple of parks in the bigger static caravans but I don't like the small transportable ones as I find them claustrophobic.
Do you agree with him or do you like caravaning holidays? He's a broadcaster called Barry something, can't remember his surname.

We have a mobile caravan and tow at the maximum legal speed, 50 mph wherever possible.
Anyone who is following should overtake when safe to do so. On most roads these days, apart from dual carriageways and motorways the speed limit for vehicles is often 50 mph so the problem as I see it is that drivers these days want to go flat out exceeding any permitted speed limit. Drivers are so arrogant with patience and courtesy on the road having gone by the way.

As I live in Devon we see loads of these caravans and this year it seems like there are more about. Mostly the people that use them year on year know how to tow them and do it safely but some of the new ones to it are often a danger to themselves and others. There should be some sort of course for them to go on before being allowed on the roads with them. We are often stuck in traffic jams because of overturned ones.
I totally agree with the bloke on GMB and I don't think he is a snob......a bit gobby, but I empathise with him totally.
I have been on a caravan holiday once withe the wife and kids and we lasted one night. The kids were 'orrible, wouldn't settle and the eldest one wanted to go tothe toilet in the middle of the night. It was blowing a gale and opening the caravan door, all the urine blew back over our pyjamas.
Back to bed and the other one wanted to go, so learning from previous episode we trudged across the field in the gale and I had to stand next to him in a building painted black and just stinking of urine.
We left for home next day.

Unless you passed your driving test before a certain date, can't remember the exact year but the category will show on your driving licence, you have to successfully pass a course on towing a caravan, this is a legal requirement.
The reason so many more caravans are on the road this year is due to the Covid restrictions and not being able to go abroad. Caravan sales have rocketed. Soon there will be a glut of caravans for sale.
