I don't have an electric one, I was told that the heat given out isn't sufficient to kill the weed at one session and some require two or even three applications. The extension lead is a nuisance as well. I bought a gas wand and found it very effective, no lead to worry about and the heat is sufficient to zap on the first go. I know nothing about them but this page appears to be genuinely independent (and even explains why some reviews on Amazon are from people who've simply not understood about how the devices do their job). So worth a read, perhaps?

Thanks Chris and Vulcan. I might try a gas wand as Vulcan suggests. Many thanks.
Sorry to butt in, but can this gas wand be used where you have artificial grass?
I have more weeds now than when I had real grass.
Barsel I wouldn't risk putting a flame near artificial grass.
Question Author
I don't know, Barsel, but I wouldn't chance it. You'd probably set the whole lot alight!
Barsel, it would surely melt.
This artificial grass is a big con. I got it because I thought it would put an end to weeding, but not only do the weeds grow all around the edge, they grow up through the grass!
Ah well, I'll just have to stick to the weed killer.
Question Author
I don't know much about artificial grass other than it's artificial and looks quite effective - but did you lay that ground cover material under it?
I had it done by a professional company and it cost me an arm and a leg.
I've seen other gardens with it and it looks fine, but I've been told that weeds don't discriminate and will grow anywhere. :-)

I'm sure I just posted a response to you Barsel. Goodness knows where that's gone. On another thread probably! :o)

I said I wonder if anyone else has similar problems with artificial grass?
