Key Safe Box

I'd like some recommendations on key safe boxes. I've seen a few on amazon but don't know which ones are good. Also are there finger ID ones?

I haven’t seen any with finger ID. It would depend on the reason it’s needed as to whether that’s a help or a hindrance wouldn’t it?
If it’s to allow emergency access or access for carers or lifeline responses then it would be a hindrance, and no use for a holiday let.

If it’s access for one person you only can they not have a key cut?

The reason I was thinking about getting one was that my mum was worried I might lock myself out one day. I moved into my new house last week and I now live far from my parents who have a set of my keys.

Have you no neighbours you can trust with a key? We swapped keys with neighbours many years ago; they watch our house and tidy up our mail whilst we are away on holiday. Another option is to keep a spare key somewhere in your car - you used to be able to buy magnetic boxes which you can stick to the underside of your car.

I'd go with a dial one. The mechanical ones where you press buttons don't mind what order or how many times you press a button, so easier to guess.

Don't use your birthday, year of birth, Christmas day, or the end of your landline number either.

My granddad had one. As long as you put the correct numbers in it didn't matter what order you entered them.

Yes, ummm. With the ones you press- so say the number is 414223, it will open with 1234.
Tbh, working with a homecare agency, who regularly forgot to give us the codes - we only really had to ring them about 1 in 10 times. Usually you can guess from the other details you have.

One key always in the purse/wallet you use daily. One in the car. One with a neighbour if possible.

I have two from screwfix.

One sits on the back of the house hidden under chairs, you open it and it gives a key to an outbuilding. The house key is in an other of the key safes that is hidden in that outbuilding. I figure if someone is going to go to all the bother then they are going to get in somehow anyway so it's as safe as can be.

I have set this configuration up for a few people now. Everyone seems happy.

Never leave keys in your car if your car has a satnav. Never leave keys in your car - if your car gets broken in to on your property they can get in to your house.

ymb - I have a similar system, with a key hidden in my front garden which gets you into my garage where the house key is (well) hidden.

Do your two keysafes have different combinations?

They recommend they aren't in obvious view, as others have said, usually on the side or back of the house.

Just found the Master Lock one on the Toolstation website at same price as Screwfix. My dad's getting me one as Toolstation is just up the road from him.

Going to position it on the wall just behind my wheelie bins. There will always be one bin in front of it when the others are wheeled out to the front for collection

I feel like I should add, for those that may have one. The worse thing with the clickable key safes, is that they "tell" you, with an audible click, if you have guessed a number correctly, and as each number only unlocks once, and in any order, it takes under a minute for it to give you its own code. Please consider replacing them, if anyone has one.
