A Recommendation For A Rust Remover/Preventer Spray Please.

After waiting months my new shed has arrived and been installed. Unfortunately without a shed, a metal/chrome shelving unit has had to stand outside and is now rusty. There is stuff on eBay from China that it is claimed will both remove and prevent rust but no reviews confirming this.
I'm hoping an ABer may have a recommendation that works. Anyone?

Back in the day cars used to have chrome-plated bumpers which used to rust. You can buy stuff from eg, Halford's for cleaning them up.

Having seen it on Find It, Fix It, Flog It many a time:
Crumple tin foil, dipped in water, and rub the chrome gently. Can be treated after with a shine from something like WD40.

I still use Brasso which also cleans up my stainless steel kitchen bin a treat :)

I've looked on Halfords' site bhg and the reviews aren't good plus the cost is too much as I could buy a new set of shelves for a little more. Thank you anyway, Halfords is usually a good place to start.

Choux my shelves have really intricate edging and slatting and I couldn't manage your suggestion. If it was something smooth like your bin then I could. So thank you as well.

Both of you have made my decision easy. I shall buy a new set of shelves and take a visit to the tip with the old ones. Happy Christmas;-)

Spray them with hammerite, just lightly sand and spray the colour of your choice. I did it with some shelves in the garage and they came up a treat.

Thanks APG. It's the sanding bit that's the problem, getting into the little intricate twists and turns. My hands can't do it, too painful. Unless I could use a small scrubbing brush to get the crusty bits off. What do you think? That would be easier for me and might work.

Try solvoautosol polish with a toothbrush to get into the cracks.

Thanks Dusty and Tony. Does it get rid of all the rust though? It will be stuck in a shed so I don't think being shiny is very important. It's stopping any more rust and getting off what is already on there that's the priority.

Yes it will take light rust off, ladybirder.

Just a suggestion, ladybirder. To stop the rust reappearing, after you have used Autosol to polish the rust off give it a spray over with clear varnish ( lacquer ).

Tonyav, just to let you know I've ordered a new one as the old one fell to pieces as soon as I applied my scrubbing brush to get the rust off.
However I shall remember this advice and make sure the same doesn't happen again to my new one.
