What is a staffordshire figure or group which was intended to stand up against a wall on a Victorian cottage mantlepiece called ?

The ones which were purely decorative were flatbacks - unpainted at the back as it wouldn't be seen.


Others were known as pastille burners - designedto burn incense or other fragrances, presumabnly to help get rid of the dustiness created by Victorian clutter
