Thumb Turn /Wheel Cylinder Lock

Are the above safe and secure , as opposed to a lock with a key for the outside and and a key for the inside ?

Sorry beds. I really can't figure that one out at all. Not from here anyway.
So there's no handle? No lever to lift? You just turn the key and that draws the snib back out of the keep to let you pull it open.?

Snib is the sticky-out bit that sits in the keepy-inny hole in the frame?

yes, from the outside. from the inside you turn the turny thing. no handle

Ok........ I would simply withdraw the mechanism from the door.

But......... I would guess your problem is that it's not lined up properly (to allow the snib to draw in and out.)
When it's out of the door... and it then turns easily, I would re-fit it, and line it all up properly.

If it is still stiff when out of the door, it may just need a good lubricant.

A bit late to answer this one Baz .. but I would consider the thumb turn lock to be one of the least secure cylinders available. When ever I turned up to force an entry into a property, if there happens to be a letterbox fitted, a quick look through the letterbox with a small mirror let me know if a thumb turn was fitted. If it was fitted, it is a simple matter of passing a spring loop through the letter box, then over the thumb turn lock and rotating it .. it takes seconds.
I would consider a thumb turn to be 'Always Open', it's just like having a key in the door. If no letter box is in place, then it is just a matter of using a pick called a 'Hockey Stick' to bypass the lock ... don't watch this video if you happen to have a thumb turn lock fitted, otherwise you wont sleep tonight !



Knowing how easy they are to bypass I would never have one in my door .. not unless a quality cylinder with anti bypass features was fitted.
