I assume you mean the cartoon bird? It's named after an actual species of bird native to America that is often spotted by the side of highways, and it does indeed run, so it's called the 'roadrunner'.


It does not, however say 'Beep Beep!', stop to grin at cameras, or become the daily obsession of a local coyote - all that is (sssh) made up!

andy is right, it is a native bird that runs along or even on the roads as guidance due to the speed that they travel.
