Don't rule out microwave cooking for everything though. With some foods, such as firm-textured fish, like salmon or trout, microwave cooking produces by far the best results.

I have one of these counter-top Halogen ovens and it's the only cooker I have used for years. Just brilliant, never had a problem with it and still going good.

Pressure cookers have always scared me bit...though I've heard that new ones are idiot proof.
I've used slowcookers for years...I even do my meatloaf in mine.
I've also have a halogen oven. Didn't get on with it at first until I had a bread recipe I was desperate to try.
As for fish in the microwave...I like the sizzle of butter when I drop my salmon fillets in a hot pan... ;)
Well it looks like I'm covered as far as energy efficient cooking. My big cooker is only used for the hob, and I really don't want to...or need to...replace the whole thing.
