Has anyone been recently? Do they still serve the Sunday roast dinner?
Yes, I know there are much better pubs that serve far superior food.

They no longer have 'club deals ' on different days of the week. Their 'Steak Club', 'Curry Club' and 'Fish and Chip' offers are now available every day but they no longer serve roast dinners on any day.

Rather timesome, methinks, this endless knocking of Wetherspoons. People choose to go, the prices are modest, they're usually clean and the toilets the cleanest I've come across. |t seems to me that there is some snobbery here. Fine, you superior people enjoy your more 'select' venues and pay twice as much. Would be grateful if you leave us plebs on pensions well alone.
That's a shame, I've been told they no longer serve their chilli con carne which I always enjoyed nor their lamb shank. I am having a 'boys' night out at the theatre in a couple of weeks and Wetherspoons is convenient for the bus and train stations and is directly opposite the theatre. Some of us are not as mobile as we were and others are very 'traditional' eaters.
I can see why some people knock Wetherspoons pubs - it all depends on which one(s) they have been to.
There is no way I would ever go back to the one nearest to me, it is dirty and attracts the great unwashed, the all day boozers and the atmosphere is not comfortable.
There are other branches not too far away I would be comfortable taking anyone to, clean and well-managed, pleasant surroundings and atmosphere.
The breakfasts served by one in Birmingham city centre are excellent - always hot and well presented.

I think I know what Paigntonian means. Wetherspoons has been knocked on AB in the past on threads and he obviously misread the OP. Hope you don't mind me trying to explain P !
I am one of those that enjoy Wetherspoons food. I particularly like the steak and kidney pudding with chips and peas. I also think their curries are rather good too.
You carry on enjoying it P, as I will.

Wetherspoon's have largely followed the 'pizza and burgers' route with their menu these days, presumably to meet the demands of families with children and younger diners. Old fogies like us don't seem to be so well catered for as previously :(

Barry (and, indeed, others here too):
If you're ever seeking a decent meal at a reasonable price from a chain bar/restaurant establishment, it's always worth checking out whether there's a branch of Cosy Club in your area. Their prices aren't really that much more than those in places like J D Wetherspoon pubs but the food is far superior, the atmosphere is far more relaxed and the staff are generally wonderful!
