...on the rates bill. It's been backdated to 2017. This means the rates office owe me over 1 thousand quid. I wonder will they send it to me or deduct it from future bills?

They will send it to you. Any sole occupant can apply, it doesn't matter how old you are
Question Author
I'll pay more attention to the post in future. :-)
You will most likely have to apply for it Sandy. Prior to the £150 rebate, Burnley Council owed me £74.77 which i believed they would automatically reimburse me with. When i enquired, i was given a website to visit whare i found a form to fill in. At the end of the month, the money was in my account.
It may be different if you pay by DD?

There's a phone number on the letter they sent me. I'll call in the morning and ask how do I get what they owe me.
BARRY, they pay Rates in Ulster, not Council Tax and they have their own scheme.
is there no end to your luck sandy??? Get a lottery ticket on!
Great news Sandy. Any news from your GP visit ?
Question Author
I do the Euro lottery but won nothing worth mentioning yet.
You must pay rates first of all by DD - I got it last year Sandy on the random advice of a neighbour. I did have to fill a form in online (it's easy enough to get). The rates bill was slashed nearly into half BUT if I can remember correctly - they took it off next year's rates which was great too. You must be 70 and live alone. Don't be telling them you will be looking after a wee dog LOL

Anneasquith,
I didn't keep the appointment. I need to sober up for a day or two and then make another one.
Ah Sandy I am sorry to hear of that - since this wee face to face appointment is so hard to get. But tomorrow's another day.
Sandy, you have half a Bernie in the Hilary! Give it to chirridie me old china!
Sandy - I have just emailed the said neighbour because she told me about another form (she knows everything) that perhaps you could be eligible for - think (my memory not good) but it gives you an allowance if your income is low.

She will email me back and I will let you know about this second form.
Sandy, please get another appointment . Are you still jaundiced ?
"lone pensioner" - is that like a "lone ranger"?
Question Author
TTT, could you translate your post of 16:26?

Anneasquith, they're still slightly off colour.
I need a letter of referral from my GP for an addiction treatment place I'm interested in so I'll likely need to make another appointment.

Anne, I never thought you were prying. Your posts suggest a concern for my welfare. Thank you for caring.
well neighbour has actually come over with a little leaflet - it may or may not apply to you but it is called

"Northern Ireland Housing Executive to manage claims for Housing Benefit and Low Income Rate Relief"

There is more detail on the leaflet but you should find out on

www.nihe.gov.uk/Housing-Help/Housing-Benefit/Making a claim for Housing Benefit or by phoning 03448 920 902

Give them a ring tomorrow Sandy and good luck.

also another number regarding the LPS (Land&Property Services) phone number 03002007802

You will get some kind of information/help.

She is unsure whether you will get refund in cash or take it off future bills. But you will find that out tomorrow.
