Open Coal Fire - What's It Called?

When I was a child we had an open coal fire. The coal was kept in place by iron fretwork, an ornate railing if you like.
The bit I'm asking about is a solid metal flap that was immediately in front of this 'railing'. It could be lowered to create a shelf on which our enamel teapot lived, keeping the tea warm / stewed. Does this flap have a name? In the up position it hid the railing and was hinged at the bottom to let down and become a shelf

Damper?
Is it the damper? Not really for putty your teapot on though.
Plate warmer trivet?
Grate front...mind you fingers!
Footman, or hearth, trivet.
The teapot stand function was a by-product of the plate whose real function was to private a draught to draw the fire up when open, and when closed it damped the draught, hence Damper
*provide not private
It's good, but it's not grate.
Cannot argue with that, bookbinder.
I didn't have the Hearth to tell them Douglas.

Thank you all, your suggestions have led me to this link that is the same principle but not identical in looks to our old fire. https://www.gratefireplaceaccessories.co.uk/18-star-all-night-burner-open-fire-burns-coals-and-logs-matt-black

The text tells me that the flap is indeed a damper and not a teapot/iron stand nor a jacket potato keep hot stand. The tool in the picture used to open/close the damper is identical the one we used.

This has also bought back memories of surely one of the most dangerous appliances - the gas poker.

As always, I appreciate your answers, thank you

I wonder how many of us are looking at old ranges and remembering our childhoods. Your thread lead me to this Barry. This is almost identical to the ranges that both my Grandmothers cooked on.

the front cover of the ash pan was known as a tidy betty.

Togo, my gran had an identical range. She cooked some fabulous meals on it.

Thanks for that, TheWinner - every day is a school day :)
You can have a brand new one hand made, if you've got the money.

meanwhile, enjoy this:

Togo, my English Gran had a range very like that one, but there was another oven/warmer (?) at the r-hand side above the stand for the kettle.
Barry, you've only mentioned a fire, whereas I'm referring to a range, we could be at cross purposes. ???
