Neighbour Complaint

Work started on my new fence yesterday and the builder said he should finish later today. The problem is that they had to drive down a wide pathway at the back of my house to drop of materials and equipment and load the van up with the original bricks and concrete blocks away. The pathway is owned by the corporation of London and one of my neighbours had a go at the driver saying he couldn't drive down there. The driver then said it would only be for a few hours to load and unload but the neighbour still complained.

I don't have a side gate and the only other way is to cart the old rubbish through my house. If it's only for a few hours is my neighbour within their right to complain?

just do it
the nighbour cant enforce the right of way
the corporation can
so the correct answer is ring the corporation
and hurry up with the loading
yes, anyone is in their rights to complain about anything unfortunately. He's a bit of a nob to do so, but there you go. I would be inclined to take them round a ottle of wine and apologise and say you didnt know but you'll note it for future
I agree with PeterPedants, for once I understood every word, thanks peter. Are there any signs saying no entry or making it clear that no access is allowed without council permission?? If not what makes you neighbor think its not allowed
agree with bednobs too. small price to pay to hopefully keep the peace
// for once I understood every word, thanks peter.//

for once he read all of it before blaarting haw haw haw !
I wouldn't take him wine. It's not his land. If he wants to complain to the Corporation, let him. Your workmen will be done by then. Miserable old devil. Best ignored.
Sounds like the job is already done so any complaint now would be futile. Just forget it.
I'm pretty confident that this sort of access is allowed Sounds like a right Nobedski, just ignore and even if the council do object you'll be done and dusted before anything happens.
I agree with Naomi24.

I wouldn't validate the neighbour's complaints by giving him anything and I certainly wouldn't apologise to him.

It's not his land. He knows the loading/inloading is only going to take a few hours, but still chose to complain. Just plain nasty.

Ignore the grumpy so-an-so, and enjoy drinking the wine yourself.

Nope, there are no, no entry signs.

I contacted the C of L to remove a tree that caused the brick wall to collapse as it kind of uprooted the concrete and also the thick branches were growing against the wall and pushing it forward. You could see the indents on the branches.

Forgot to add at the end that the C of L workmen drove their vehicle down the path to take the tree away and a bush that also needed removing prior to me getting the builder in.

Thanks all, I knew I wasn't going mad!
Don't let it worry you, tigger. The nosey old fool is just being silly. Probably got nothing better to do. More than likely the path is there for access anyway. There's no other reason for it to be there. Forget it.
////More than likely the path is there for access anyway.///

If that is the case, then as a neighbour it may unsettle me.

This is the tree and you can also see the wide pathway at the back.

Maybe I should've contacted the C of L to forewarn them.
Lots of houses have pathways running along the back of the row, sqad. Handy for burglars, I'll grant you (if that's what you mean) ... but they do.
Forget it tigger. Not worth worrying about.
naomi, that was my point that if the pathway gives access to more than one residence, then blocking that pathway might inconvenience others.

Perhaps a word of explanation from tigger the day or so before, might have been a nice touch.

I very rarely see anyone walking down the pathway, Sqad. Just the odd person with their dog and the van wasn't blocking anyone from walking round it. Ther was plenty of room to walk past it.
Tiggs, sometimes life can be difficult at times, . Some people just love to complain. Finish your wall and don’t dwell on the complaint.
