We own the freehold and our neighbour next door is leasehold. They bought the property 6 years ago. The people before them (elderly couple) died. My bedroom is right next to their bathroom and I never heard the elderly couple use the toilet apart from occasional toilet flushes. However, since the new couple arrived, I can hear everything 'fall' into the toilet. I've tried to cover my wall with big pictures and moved furniture around, but to no avail. I have been simmering away inside for these 6 years until one day I'd had enough. The husband knocked on our door (a mild mannered man) telling us they were having a BBQ and hope it wouldn't be too smoky for us (it was fine actually the BBQ), and then I gently blurted out, "There's something I've been meaning to say for a long while which I've found embarrassing to say. It's of a sensitive nature in that I can hear you guys in the bathroom, toilet area. I don't know if you want to add sound proofing, but I felt I must tell you". He was a little shocked. He then changed the subject by telling me when his wife's baby was due, etc.
Did I do the right thing to let him know their bathroom 'sounds'?
Maybe you need to reconsider counselling - because if something so normal upsets you so much then you do need help. Or maybe go back to your god and ask him to stop them peeing and pooing next door. To be honest though I don't think anything is going to change unless you wake up and smell the coffee - all these problems are yours not other peoples and most people would be happy to only have such problems in their life because they face real problems which are much worse.
Of course telling them is the right thing, although they may already have noticed that they can hear you take a dump too.
You just want to be thankful you dont live next door to me. It's most unpleasant according to Mrs YMB. I am banned from all the en-suites and main bathroom.
I've lived in several flats where I can hear people going to the loo but it's never bothered me.
They are only doing something that we all do.
Would rather put up with that than live where I can hear loud music or the TV blaring, now that would get on my nerves.
My Bathroom is next door to a children's bedroom so I always try to be quiet they're usually out making a din, (Pud-unchs!) is safe through the day.
They do know me so on the odd occasion that I'm loud at night I do hear "Is that you Anthony"
"Yep sorry to wake you" (no secret on here my name)
No problem.
I do wonder though how long it took your neighbours Treacle to realise that the buzzin' aint a bee or wasp in their bathroom.
Serves you right, Treacle, if from now on, every time you hear a sound like a 'motor-bike' from your neighbour's bathroom, you hear a rather loud, "SORRY!" :-J
A show-biz friend told me once that Arthur Miller told him that when he first took his new girlfriend Marilyn Monroe, to visit his mother in her small NY apartment, M. went to the bathroom & Arthur & his mother sat there listening to rather loud deluge.
After a few moments his mother said, "She pi sse s like a horse!"
