I have been using this since I had the heater replaced on my washing machine, it was full of limescale. But is there a cheaper version that is just as good?

dunno - being in a hard water area we get bombarded with Calgon adverts. It's probably a toss up whether or not the cost of using Calgon will be more or less than the cost of a new washing machine!

Yes, every supermarket seems to make their own brand, and Calgon is quite expensive. Just wondered if there was anything else as ‘good’ as Calgon. Do you think I could use it every “other” wash? I am in a hard water area. Thanks all.
It's worth reading the reviews which suggest putting it in an airtight box as it can go solid. I actually used soda crystals which seem to work fine
You could go to Sainsbury's and compare the 'ingredients' of both products that's what I often do
Looks like the Sainsbury's own brand has just one ingredient.
This looks as if it might be worth a read:

and I guess the present move to very low temperature or even cold water washing products will create less calcium build up in the machine.
Chemically speaking, there is no reason why this product doesn't perform the same function as Calgon...at a fraction of the price.
Also available in tablet form. I have used this (and similar products) for as long as I can remember and never had a washing-machine problem due to the local hard water.

I have always used soda crystals in the wash but didn’t seem to work for me! Thanks everyone
I use Calgon and my neighbour uses vinegar! Given the future cost of running a machine on the highest heat for the longest cycle I think I will stick to Calgon ;)
