b is fine for a tumble dryer and do you want a condenser or a vented tumble dryer or a heat pump tumble dryer it really matters what your home set up is like do you have a vent port for the tumble dryer where it will be or do you have a water out option for the dryer
Depends how much you are looking to spend. For £200 B rating is quite good - if you can afford £800 you could get A++

I guess a reverse action helps the drying.
if you tell us what you need we can maybe provide some options for a tumble dryer so do you need good energy rating and do you need a water out option or are you happy with a reservoir or do you want a vent out the wall

I need a condenser

As to the energy rating - I'm just wondering if b rating would be fine , given the cost of energy currently
if you look at your tv rating you might vomit so i think b would be fine
Be aware that energy ratings have changed so be sure any appliance is at the new style rating. Check out heat pump dryers, they are the most energy efficient but do take longer to dry.
I've had a heat pump one for a couple of years and it's good

How would you rate the following manufacturers in terms of reliability / performance - 1 to 10 - 1 being best

Hotpoint
Asko
Sharp
Electra
Beko
Candy
Hoover
Haier
Nobody here will have used even a fraction of those dryers so impossible to say. Just look at on line reviews.

I had a Hotpoint that was recalled due to the fire risk issue. They supplied me with a replacement for £99. Both models seemed OK to me. (these are condenser dryers)

I wasn't thinking about dryers in exclusively - just as a manufacturer overall
I wouldn’t choose any of those manufacturers. If I needed to buy a new tumble dryer I would only look at heat pump types, they really are a lot cheaper to run.
but a heap more expensive to buy?
You can buy an 8kg one with an A energy rating for £300, you can pay more than that for a standard condenser one.
OK - as I say, I only replace stuff when absolutely necessary so not looked at TDs recently.
Mine must be 12 years old but I saw a segment about heap pump TD on the gadget show and was impressed.
