How To Make A 6’ By 3’ Frame To Support A Plywood Ceiling.

I need to make a simple wooden frame to carry a plywood ceiling above a small porch. It measures only 6’ by 3’. In theory it sounds simple I would like to know any tips for connecting wood at right angles and maintaining the overall rectangular shape. YouTube videos would be good.

The rectangular shape is best defined by your piece of plywood, having ensured it is the correct shape to fill your porch ceiling, you can attach to it the 'frame' of 2" x 1" timber by small screws or even nails & wood glue.

It will be the plywood itself, not the frame which gives the panel its strength.

You would be best to use some corner clamps. Either mitre the joints or leave them straight and clamp them like this to keep the shape.

You’d be much better using metal ‘C’ sections which you can screw to the walls/window frames and then put cross members at 300 (1ft) spacing. Measure each side and the cross members, mark that out on plywood (WPB type) and viola! You have the shape.
