This may seem a daft question but what's this all about?

Over the last 6 months I have seen this mentioned in magazines, newspapers and puzzle books in WHSmiths but what do you do and what is the object of them?

the most basic have 9 squares each made up of 9 smaller squares, you have to place the numbers 1-9 in the smaller squares so that each larger square has each number only once, at the same time each line accross and down can only have the numbers 1-9 shown once in each line. some nubers are given to start you off. the point is to keep the brain active i prefer crosswords myself as you pick up some general knowledge along the way

cheers jan

Hmmm.... sounds very complicated.
it's just a question of thinking laterally and logically one step at a time then it all falls into place again a bit like a crossword, the bigger ones seem daunting but bit by bit you fill it in and the more answers you have the easier it gets give one a go the sun newspaper print two everyday one is very simple the other a tad harder but still not impossible
Just for the record, it's Sudoku, pron 'suudokku' -the first vowel long and the other two short...
Believe it or not Buttonstoo, there is a site on the web where you can fill in the numbers you have and it will complete the puzzle for you! Mad or what? Happy holiday!
